Catching up
From Kottayam, we traveled up to Kumily, near Thekady and stayed there for a few days. We then traveled to a homestay outside Munnar before heading back to Cochin to catch a flight back to Hyderabad.
Tonight were boarding a train to Shirdi, Maharashtra to visit a Hindu temple. My Ali Baba pants are ready to go.
Had a little accident in our cab driving from Agonda to Majorda, when a bus full of school kids got a little too close to our cabbie.
No one was hurt, but Indians quickly gathered to assess the situation and helpfully watch the two drivers yell into each other’s cell phones.
About 20 minutes later, the rain started coming down hard. 25 minutes later, police showed up to write their report. Amusingly, the cops used a tailor’s tape measure to gauge the width of the road here for their report.
Goa, a former Portuguese colony, is known for its sandy beaches. We dropped into some beach side huts in Agonda and stayed here for the first 3 days of our trip. We arrived about a month before tourist season, as many places, including our own, were still undergoing construction. Due to monsoons, many of these lodgings are rebuilt every year. We also visited Palolem beach, where Jason Bourne’s girlfriend dies.
Food is great, cows and dogs everywhere. Goa will be missed.
